Post-Weld Heat Treatment

Heat Treating is the controlled heating and cooling of metals to alter their physical and mechanical properties without changing the product shape. It not only can help other manufacturing processes, such as improving machining and formability and can also improve product performance by increasing strength or other desirable characteristics. Concordia Technologies utilizes gas-fired furnace heating as the preferred method for weld stress relief. In this process, the entire weldment is placed in a furnace and heated to a specified temperature to reduce or eliminate residual stresses introduced during welding. This treatment helps prevent cracking, distortion, and other structural issues caused by these stresses. When the weldment or parts become too large to fit into our gas fired furnace, we use a third-party service to do on site combustion and or electrical heat treating.

All heat treatment processes are performed in accordance with ASME Code requirements, and a digital chart recorder provides continuous readouts of the Post Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) cycle for full traceability. We also offer dry-out and partial dry-out services for refractory castables. Like our post-weld heat treatment process, when the item or items requiring curing are too large for our oven, we partner with a trusted third-party provider to ensure all customer requirements and expectations are fully met.
